My love for pancakes led me to write a book about regional grain production, The New Bread Basket.

I live in Troy, New York, a worn-out industrial city that’s finding a new future. My writing traces changes in the food system for farming newspapers, locavore outlets and foodie sites. I teach classes about food justice and manage a soup kitchen, working to increase the amount of fresh food in the menu.

I eat pancakes almost every day, and my kids don’t get tired of them either.
